Be part of the “Pay It Forward Wave” to get friends back to work

6 01 2010

Hello Everyone,

For five days, starting this Monday, January 11, I need your help to do something important.

Now is the time to harness the power of the incredible people of our KIT List community to make a radical difference in the job market.

After hearing reports of 12.5% unemployment in California, and not much better for the rest of the country, I had an idea…let’s use the power of friends helping friends to create a tremendous wave of focused effort to get people back to work!

The Idea:

For five days, every person on the KIT List does just ONE thing each day for a friend to help with his or her job search. The first day will be Monday, 1/11/10.

You can help a different friend, family member or colleague each day or help the same person for multiple days.

With over 64,000 people on the KIT List, doing one thing for each of the five days, we’ll generate over 320,000 actions that will create an incredible wave of results!

Pass The Word:

This is not limited to the KIT List, please email this idea to other friends, share it on blogs, Twitter and Facebook so we can multiply this effort and get more people back to work quickly.

I’ll also launch this on our blog at http://www.KITlist.wordpress.com and through KIT List emails, giving ideas each day for what you can do to help a friend find a job. People can share their ideas and results via the comments section, too.

Let’s make a huge difference together with this Pay It Forward Power Wave!

Sue

Sue, This is such a natural yet amazingly original extension of the support you have always provided for so many. Although out of the Bay Area, I can be a resource for Southern Oregon and would be happy to help anyone out who wants to relocate. Word of caution though, the market in Oregon is almost worse than in CA so….
Love the positive energy behind this. Good luck – Diana

Sue,

This is a fabulous idea and hope to help a friend and also be helped in my job search. I am looking for entry level HR Coordinator type jobs in and around the Peninsula and South Bay. Looking forward to hearing more about this from you.

Thanks,
Anu

Other simple things that we can do is mention companies who are hiring and also give them more business (tweet about them, buy their stuff, etc.).

This is a wonderful idea. I’m definitely committed and think this is a great resolution many of us can pledge to do throughout the year.

Krista, asking for 2 referrals is an excellent idea to grow your networkbase during your search.

THRILLED to see this message from you Sue! I saw it this morning after reviewing a friend of a friends resume as a favor and providing some input, plus sending her all the job search resources (including your site) and a draft email message that i had sent out when I took a package a year ago after 15 years with Applied Materials. I did the “viral marketing” approach – sent an email with my resume and a brief description of what I was looking for to everyone I knew and trusted and asked for them to send to at least 2 people they knew.

And by the time I had my package in hand from AMAT 6 weeks later, I also had a a new job at Adobe! I believe in this approach and am so glad to see you using your site for this.

Thanks and all the best for 2010.
